Hitwise www.hitwise.com , an online competitive intelligence service, reports on the findings of The Pew Internet Project Survey http://www.pewinternet.org/ conducted between February 15 and March 7 of this year, which found that despite the controversy regarding the reliability of content on Wikipedia, "36% of online American adults consult Wikipedia". \

The report provides a profile of Wikipedia users (for instance, 50% of those with at least a college degree consult the site, compared with 22% of those with a high school diploma), Wikipedia's ranking among the most visited sites on the Web (it was #1 at the end of the week of March 17th according to Hitwise data), and reasons for Wikipedia's popularity.
